Lightning Storm: How to Play and the Five Bonus Games
Lightning Storm is an Evolution live game show played on a 39-segment digital wheel, the DigiWheel. What makes it different from other money wheels is that the bonuses move. Before every spin, 20 bonus symbols are placed on random numbered segments, so the wheel looks different each round. You bet on wheel results, on bonus symbols or on two extra spots called Storm Chaser and X Chaser. If the wheel stops on a number you backed, you win at that number's rate; if it stops on a bonus symbol you backed, you play that bonus game.
The rules, step by step
- Place your bets. Choose wheel results, bonus symbols or the Storm Chaser and X Chaser spots.
- Bonus symbols are assigned. The wheel places 20 bonus game symbols on random numbered segments. Some bonus segments also receive a multiplier between 2x and 50x.
- The DigiWheel spins. It stops on a single segment.
- The round settles. A numbered result pays at its rate. A bonus symbol starts that bonus game for the players who backed it. The full payout table is in the game's help screen.
Because the bonus symbols are redistributed every round, you cannot learn a fixed layout. The only thing that stays the same is the wheel's 39 segments.
Storm Chaser and X Chaser
If you are new to the game, it is reasonable to leave Storm Chaser and X Chaser aside until you have read the in-game help.
The five bonus games
The tile-picking multiplier wall
The first bonus shows a wall of multipliers hidden behind tiles. You pick one tile, and the multiplier behind it is your result.
Monster Mash
Three reels build a monster piece by piece. As the parts come together, multipliers are added and multiplied, so the final value depends on the combination that appears.
Battery Charger
A small wheel decides whether batteries are charged or explode. Charged batteries build up value; an explosion changes the outcome of that battery.
Fireball
A ball drops into a grid of 149 pockets. The pocket where it settles decides the multiplier.
Lightning Storm
The headline bonus. A billboard full of multipliers appears, and you pick one of three lightning strikes. Evolution caps this bonus at 20,000x.

RTP and house edge
Return to player (RTP) is the share of stakes a game is designed to pay back over a very long run; the rest is the house edge. Evolution's public Lightning Storm page does not list RTP. You can find the exact figure in the game's help screen at your casino.
RTP is a long-term average and says nothing about a single session. In a game where most of the value sits in rare bonus results, short sessions can land very far from that average in either direction.
What our data shows
In the 24 hours to 15 October 2026 we recorded 1,045 Lightning Storm rounds. Results were split like this:
- Numbered wheel results: 47.7%
- Battery Charger: 17.4%
- Monster Mash: 11.8%
- The tile-picking multiplier wall: 10.7%
- Fireball: 9.2%
- Lightning Storm bonus: 3.3%
The highest multiplier we recorded in that window was 800x, far below the 20,000x cap. Keep in mind that the bonus shares reflect two random steps at once: where the symbols were placed and where the wheel stopped. They describe one day, not fixed odds. You can see recent results on the Lightning Storm page.
Common misconceptions
"The Lightning Storm bonus has not appeared for a while, so it must be close." No. This is the gambler's fallacy. Each round redraws the bonus symbols and spins the wheel again; nothing carries over.
"If a bonus symbol sits on many segments this round, it is a good time to bet on it." More symbols on the wheel do raise that round's chance of landing on that bonus. But it says nothing about the size of the bonus, and the house edge still applies to every bet.
"A system can overcome the edge." Changing stake sizes cannot change the odds of any single round. Our article Does the Martingale System Work? walks through why.
Before you play
Lightning Storm is busy and visually intense, and bonus rounds take time, which can make a session feel shorter than it is. Set a spending limit and a time limit before you begin. Our guide Setting Limits: A Practical Guide to Safer Play has practical ideas for doing that.
